Remember when I said that that crisp autumn air would be here before we knew it - it was here - Thursday morning temp at the Lake - 37 degrees with the forecast for a chance of snow. Alas, the day brought NO snow for Lake Sabrina, but we did here rumors of that white stuff falling at Mammoth. During that little cooling spell we had, we also had that nasty four letter word - w-i-n-d. Sunday we woke to a glassy lake, 47 degrees and fluffy white clouds over the Sabrina basin mountains.

Fishing, this week, was like last week with an added twist - brrrrr cold weather and some pretty breezy weather. The best fishing once again was back at the inlets with NightCrawlers or PowerBait. If you can get your trolling line down - flashers and a NightCrawler has worked. Getting some much deserved piece and quiet while drifting the rock piles with NightCrawlers and PowerBait was working for some while those that were fishing from shore had some luck with -what else- NightCrawlers, PowerBait or Salmon Eggs. Nick and Hudson (4 yrs) Perrenoud found the secret last Sunday for limits around caught on NightCrawlers and Jigs. Good job, guys! The Department of Fish and Game stocked the lake Tuesday with pan-size fish and some a bit bigger.

The lake is no longer spilling and we have dropped a few inches this week. This is to be expected as our lake is a reservoir. With the snow in the back country almost gone, the run-off has slowed tremendously thus not as much water coming into the lake. But with the demand for electricity from Southern California Edison, SCE's having to produce more juice - so glub, glub, glub, down go the lakes.

Found a purple Delphinium in Rick's Garden - so pretty against the greens and granite rocks. We talked to a camper camping at Parchers' Resort on the South Lake Road, he and his daughter saw 5 bears, so maybe the sixth took a vacation or with the cool temps thought it was winter. Play it safe and practice the "Forestry Bear Food Rules - Keep-it-out-of-Reach".

With the cooler temps, the number of SKEETERS is on the wane - yahoo! Looks like Mother Nature is going back to summer - temps are to be back in the mid 60s and low 40s this week. Take a look at this website for a pretty good weather guess for the Bishop Creek Canyon area, www.weather.gov, enter ASPENDELL, CALIFORNIA, in the search area and that will give you information about the weather in the small community you pass just before getting to Lake Sabrina.

With the return of warmer weather the skeeters have returned, so remember the bug juice and COMMIT TO MEMORY, IF YOU PUT ON BUG JUICE, SUN SCREEN OR FOO FOO JUICE, WASH YOUR HANDS! THEN RUB THEM IN WORM GOO, TROUT ATTRACTANT OR POWERBAIT - GET THE OTHER SCENT OFF!

Also, don't forget your sunscreen and dark glasses, the glare on the water is soooo bright, they just might blind your eyeballs. PONCHOS or COATS MAY ALSO BE NEEDED - YOU NEVER KNOW!
